HOW TO CONTROL HYDROCOTYLE

In lawns

Apply LAWNCLEAN HYDROCOTYLE, a selective herbicide that does not harm lawn grasses but kills hydrocotyle. For more effective control leave lawns uncut for two-three weeks before treatment. For best results use in Spring, Summer and Autumn when lawn and weed growth is vigorous.

For best results apply spray in Spring and Autumn when weeds and turf are growing.

For situations where prickle weed or hydrocotyle predominate, undertake soil management at the same time – both prickle weeds and hydrocotyle prefer sour acidic (i.e. low soil pH) and poorly draining soil.  Apply 100 g/m2 of lime two weeks prior to spraying. Also consider improving drainage, removing shade or aerating the soil to make the area less suitable for these weeds.

Note: If LAWNCLEAN HYDROCOTYLE is not available TURFCLEAN will also effectively control hydrocotyle.

In garden beds

Spot treat with WEED WEAPON. It controls hydrocotyle within 4-7 days and is an ideal product for use around established trees and shrubs. It is inactive in the soil so planting can be safely carried out soon after treatment.

In paths and driveways

For long term control on paths and driveways use PATHCLEAR LONGTERM. This will kill a wide range of weeds and prevent regrowth for up to 12 months.

About

Hydrocotyle is a creeping mat-forming weed often found in lawns and flowerbeds. The leaf is usually hairy, almost round and stalked at the centre.

Commonly found all over New Zealand.

Did you know

There are 3 common hydrocotyle weeds of lawns;  hairy weed Hydrocotyle moschata a shiny leaved weed Hydrocotyle heteromeria and Hydrocotyle novae-zeelandiae, which is quite a variable species. A 4th species common in Auckland lawns is Hydrocotyle tripartita.
